Introduction

Hello everyone,

Just started my journey with Blockchain learning journey with Blockgames, Zuri Team and Nestcoin. And in this article, I want to share the major difference between web2 and web3.

The different versions of the internet

Ever since the beginning of the internet, there was web1, web2, and now web3.

Web 1

Web1 was the read only web. Here, you could not change anything thing. Only static sites where you the viewer can't change anything. Then web2 came about

Web 2

Web2 is the read-write web. In this version of the internet, you the viewer can change some content authorized by the creator of the site, e.g post a picture on Instagram, upload your goods to eBay and so much cool stuff like that. In this version of the internet, the end users are engaged in content management. They are called dynamic sites.

Web 3

And now, the current and the future state of the internet, drumroll.... Its the web3. And what really is web3 ๐Ÿค”

Web3 is the read-write-own web. Web3 also known as the decentralised web is a version of the internet where sites(Decentralised Apps) are not really owned by any organisation or individuals but the end users. Crazy right? Platforms and apps built on Web3 wonโ€™t be owned by a central gatekeeper, but rather by users, who will earn their ownership stake by helping to develop and maintain those services.

Major differences between web 2 and 3

Now that we know what they are, what are the major differences between web 2 and 3?

  1. Web 2 is community focused while web 3 is individual focused
  2. Web 2 application are regular web apps while web 3 apps are smart apps built on AI and ML
  3. In web 2, the network takes ownership of the data but web 3 implies the ownership of data by an entity alongside flexibility for sharing data throughout the network.
  4. While web 2.0 aimed to connect people, web 3.0 aims to connect knowledge And lots more...

Conclusion
